Updated and Effective from: September 2024
Purpose
- To clarify the minimum length that a shift can be for Lend A Friend Services
Policy
- All Helpers engaged with Lend A Friend are Sole Traders
- Sole Traders run their own disability business and hence do not need to comply with Fairwork or Award requirements
- Lend A Friend does not impose minimum shift length requirements, but each Helper may have their own minimum shift lengths they are willing to accept, which can be negotiated between Helper and Participant directly
- Fairwork requirements state minimum shift lengths for Disability Support Services are 2 hours, so many Helpers may wish to follow this rule
- Despite Fairwork having a 2 hour minimum shift length rule, the NDIA only permits billing Participants for time spent during a shift (excluding shifts which meet the Short Notice Cancellation Policy requirements)
- If Helpers have a 2 hour minimum shift length policy, yet agree to work a 1 hour shift, they are only permitted to bill for the 1 hour shift
- While Lend A Friend does not impose minimum shift lengths, it may be difficult to find Helpers to cover shifts which are shorter than 2 hours in length
