Updated and Effective from: September 2024
Purpose
- Outline of the insurances required to be a Helper with Lend A Friend
- Explain what services are and are not covered under the expected insurance policies
Policy
- All Helpers engaged with Lend A Friend must have an insurance policy with a minimum of:
- 10 million dollars of public liability cover
- 1 million dollars of professional indemnity cover
- Third party car insurance
- Lend A Friend arranges Public Liability and Professional Indemnity cover through Bizcover insurance brokers, however Helpers have the ability to arrange different insurance should they choose, provided the abovementioned minimums are met.
- The Public Liability and Professional indemnity insurance for Disability, Community, Aged Care, and Home Care covers:
- Damage to a Member’s property caused by the Helper
- Damage to the community or private property and business caused by a Member while under the care of the Helper
- Injury to the public or Member, including medical bills in some circumstances
- Damages resulting from poor judgment and advice from the Helper
- Disability, Community, Aged Care, and Home Care insurance does not cover, and hence Helpers are not covered for:
- Injury or damages as a result of high risk, adventure, and outdoor activities (excluding those performed in a gym). For example:
- Kayaking
- Rock climbing
- Swimming in the Ocean
- Contact sports
- Helpers and Members may choose to partake in activities which are not covered by the Helper’s insurance, however Lend A Friend does not endorse this
- Most activities which are organised by private companies, like rock climbing gyms, have their own insurance policies which may cover accidents in this setting. This will need to be confirmed with the management team of each activity and Lend A Friend can’t be held responsible for damages in these adventure settings.
- Participation in adventure setting is up to the discretion of individual Helpers and Participants, and not the responsibility of Lend A Friend.
- Injury to a Helper is not covered under standard insurance, and Helpers who want protection in cases of personal injury should consider taking out personal injury, workers compensation, income protection or other forms of additional insurance
- If a Member requests that a Helper supports them in any uninsured activity, the Member understands that any damages that arise from this activity may not be covered by the Helper or Lend A Friend’s insurance.
- The Member agrees that for any damages resulting from uninsured activities that they requested a Helper support them in, the Helper and Lend A Friend can’t be held liable, and are indemnified of responsibility
- Lend A Friend can’t be held liable for damages from activities not covered in the scope of our insurance.
- The Helper may provide a Liability Waiver when Members insist on receiving support for high risk and uninsured activities
